Architectual Spec
Guide
Specifications:
1.0 GENERAL
- 1.1 Description
- A. Fiberiffic is a patented process for
providing
thermal, fireproofing and
acoustical insulation.
- B. Retrofit and new construction.
- C. Commercial and industrial construction.
- D. Spandrel glass, curtain walls and cavity fill partition walls.
- E. Pipe chases, heating and ventilation ducts.
- F. Fill brick, block, frame, metal siding and stucco.
- 2.0 PRODUCTS
- 2.1 Acceptable Manufacturers
- A. The Fiberiffic is wholly proprietary. Machines, nozzles and binder
are
only manufactured by Abiff Manufacturing
Corporation.
- 2.2 Materials / Equipment
- A. Only materials such as rockwool, fiberglass and cellulose, which
have been pre-approved by Abiff Manufacturing's R&D department may
be used with the Fiberiffic. These materials are proven and tested by
independent laboratories, and have been in use and approved by building
departments for many years.
- B. All materials used must conform to the following:
- Non - combustible
- Asbestos - free
- Non - toxic
- Environmentally friendly
- C. Binder is water-based and non-toxic as per industry standards.
- D. The machine is
equipped with a gas,
propane or electric engine, depending on where the machine is being
used, and with an electric starter. It measures 62" (158cm) high x 40"
(104cm) wide and weighs 1200 lbs (545 kgs).
- 2.3 Storage
- A. Fiberiffic binder and insulation materials must be stored in a dry and
protected area, off the ground and in undamaged containers with labels
intact.
- B. Do not use Fiberiffic binder past the expiration date stamped on the
label.
- 3.0 EXECUTION
- 3.1 Installation
- Only qualified, trained contractors with current certification from
Abiff Manufacturing Corporation may install the Fiberiffic. Only the patented
equipment and binder approved by the Abiff Manufacturing Corporation may
be used for installation.
- 3.2 Pre-Installation Requirements
- A. Submit written report to General Contractor of defects of work
performed by other trades, and unsatisfactory site and/or environmental
conditions.
- B. A surface which is dry, clean and free of oil, grease, dirt,
loose paint or other matter that would impede the efficiency of
adherence of the product must be provided by the General Contractor or
property owner.
- C. Fiberiffic binder must be mixed using clean, potable water free
of all dangerous substances.
- D. General Contractor or owner to be responsible for maintaining a
clear, clean and unobstructed work area. Access to the substrate area
must not be impeded.
- E. Approval for any attachments to the substrate is required from
the insulation contractor prior to installation.
- F. Installation of pipes, ducts, conduits, or other equipment to be
affixed to substrate after the Fiberiffic application.
- G. Adequate electrical power, water, weather and wind protection,
temporary light and heat, ventilation and hoisting is to be provided by
the General Contractor if needed.
- 3.3 Installation
- A. Apply Fiberiffic to areas as specified.
- B. In cases where excessive thickness is required, Fiberiffic may
have to be mechanically supported.
- C. Fiberiffic may be left as a rough textured finish, or troweled to
a smooth finish for surface treatment, as per samples.
- D. Insulation Contractor will patch and repair Fiberiffic damaged by
other trades. General Contractor will be responsible for the costs,
which shall in turn be assessed against the trades responsible for the
damage.
- E. Waste containers shall be provided by the General Contractor.
- 3.4 Environmental Requirements
- A. Ambient and substrate temperatures must not be lower than 34
degrees F (1 degree C) during application.
- B. Adequate dry heat and ventilation to ensure proper curing is
required.
- 3.5 Inspection
- A. Inspections by the General Contractor, or final inspections if
required, are to be performed while installation crews and machinery are
still on site.
Summary
of tests using the Fiberiffic Fiber Insulation
System For these tests, samples were prepared
from virgin white loose fiberglass material. All tests (except as
noted) were performed by U.S. Testing Company, Inc., Fairfield, New
Jersey.
ASTM E - 84 - 94 Surface Burning Characteristics of Building
Materials
Flame spread Index: 0
Smoke Developed Value: 10
Class A Interior Wall & Ceiling Finish category.
ASTN C - 739 - 91 Smoldering Combustion
There was no flaming of any specimens. The specimens exhibited
charring at ignition area. Ignition was noted at seven seconds along
with charring and melting of the specimen directly exposed to the
flame. The flamefront advanced a maximum distance of two feet at
fifteen seconds.
ASTM E - 759 Substrate Deflection
There was no indication of spalling or delamination of SFRM under the
influence of bending stress at a center line deflection of 1" (25 mm).
ASTM C - 655 - 91 Fungus Resistance
The submitted sample satisfied the Fungal Resistance test
criteria.

Fiberiffic Latex Binder, elementary analysis
Microanalytical Laboratory, University of Vienna, Austria
Because it contains no nitrogen, sulphur, or chlorine compounds, the
formation of dangerous fumes during the incineration of the binding
material is not possible.
